Louis Warner – “Wild Romance”

Little African Drama by Louis Warner

Inspired by his childhood growing up in rural South Africa, Little African Drama is the second album from Louis Warner. Ranging from intimate folk to fervent rockers, the release combines Warner’s lyrical retrospection with memorably melodic songwriting. “I didn’t set out to write an album about Africa,” Warner says. “But over the year as the tunes started to come together, I felt myself thinking about the desperate scenes I witnessed growing up.”

“Wild Romance” is among the album’s highlights. Pulsing guitars accompany vocals emitting a youthful spirit, taking a chance on a new romance. The fuzzy rockabilly feeling captivates throughout, the suave vocals crafting a hypnotic grip leading into playful guitar wandering and a playful key-laden shimmer past the two-minute mark. The preceding track, “Army of One,” touts a similarly convincing rock-forward feeling, while “Call in the Guns” drives on an atmospheric alternative-pop feeling led by bass and piano. Warner’s folk-forward intimacy enthralls on “Not Dark Yet” and “Dirt Bike Blues.” Little African Drama is a lovely album from Louis Warner with considerable eclectic charm.
