INTERVIEW: InternalChaos blends Electronic & Metal

InternalChaos aka Saad Al Sami Arnob was the former guitarist/composer of the Gothic Metal band called ‘AggronympH’ and also the ex-vocalist of a black metal band called ‘Arch Angel, after releasing 2 LPs & 2 EPs with these bands, he decided to go solo and work on his own project called ‘InternalChaos’ which can be defined as Metal with much blended Electronic Music and where he does almost all the work in his home studio except the female vocals which is usually done by session singers. He debuted his first single in 2020 called ‘Another Corridor’ featuring Lizzy V (Netherlands) & RavageRaps (USA), followed by ‘Traces’ in 2021 and recently ‘Gemini’ which heavily emphasizes the concepts of Yin & Yang and ancient mysticism.

Can you tell us a bit about where you come from and how you got started?

InternalChaos: Well, we all have come a long way, I used to play guitar, write & compose songs in a Gothic Metal band called ‘AggronympH’ and also used to do vocals for a black metal band known as ‘Arch Angel back in the day, after doing tons of shows and a tour around China, also having released 2 LPs & 2 EPs and a hand full of singles with these bands, I decided to go solo, form and work on this project called ‘InternalChaos’ a year ago, doing almost all the work in my home studio except the female vocals parts which are usually taken care of by session singers.

Did you have any formal training or are you self-taught?

InternalChaos: Everyone has been listening to music their whole life in one way or another, the first time I picked up the guitar was in 2004, took basic lessons from a guy named Aoyon who used to live next door and then adopted things out on my own by listening, practicing, guitar pro tabs and then YouTube.

Who were your first and strongest musical influences and why the name InternalChaos’?

InternalChaos: There are tons of influences from various genres of music but the names worth mentioning are Lacuna Coil, The Birthday Massacre, Fail Emotions, Delain, HIM, Katatonia, Inflames, The 69 Eyes, Evanescence, Norther. And as for the name ‘InternalChaos’, the literal meaning speaks for itself. Sometimes people can’t express the things that are deep within which often can be beyond all perceived senses. So, it’s like a journey of getting to know oneself, connecting to higher consciousness, which the world lacks as of now.

What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?

InternalChaos: It’s really hard to pinpoint how a person resonates as it’s subjective. And the sound that is conveyed is mostly Metal with much blended Electronic Music.

For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your development as an artist and music maker, and the transition towards your style, which is known asElectronic Metal?

InternalChaos: All kinds of music, sound, rhythm, etc. have been done way before, every individual is unique and lucky are the ones who can grasp and combine the best of both. Thus, we observe such examples all around the industry.

What’s your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles – and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative, and entertainment?

InternalChaos: Yes, all of it and also the things in between.

Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more, or different in the future?

InternalChaos: Yeah, for sure, it has always been one of my passions. It’s awesome to be able to make what you want to hear. Also, a great way to pass time and time is valuable.

Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song? Do you usually start with a tune, a beat, or a narrativein your head? And do you collaborate with others in this process?

InternalChaos: The process is usually lead by day-to-day emotions; we all learn something new every moment of the way, eventually end up expressing them in a form that makes sense.

What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?

InternalChaos: Sometimes most of us regret if certain things could have been different but those experiences made us who we are today. With difficulty comes ease and wisdom.

On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?

InternalChaos: There were certain things which we couldn’t do, let’s say a year ago but as time goes on, we are constantly evolving, trying to achieve a better version of ourselves, staying conscious, it’s the little steps that count as success and one can only be grateful for it.

Putting aside the accolades or criticisms that fans or the media may afford your releases, what’s the one thing about you or your music, you think people may overlook or misinterpret most often?

InternalChaos: We often tend to perceive things as the mirror reflects, so anyone can think, overlook, interpret anything that they want, it’s their choice.

If I switched on your media player right now, which artist or song will I most likely hear?

InternalChaos: Erra, Bring Me the Horizon, Volumes, Veil of Maya, Tesseract, Born of Osiris, etc.

You have worked with different bands and singers, but is there any acclaimed international artist you would like to work with within the near future, and why?

InternalChaos: There is a dream to work with Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Avril Lavigne ha-ha!!!

With social media having a heavy impact on our lives and the music business in general, how do you handle criticism, haters, and/or naysayers in general? Is it something you pay attention to or simply ignore?

InternalChaos: It’s all just perspectives and I try my best to respect opinions as it helps to grow as individuals, we can’t always be right nor please everyone all the time, at the end of the day everyone is equal, so all thoughts matter.

Could you tell us something about how your latest project. How it came about, and the concept behind it?

InternalChaos: The first single was released in 2020 called ‘Another Corridor’ featuring Lizzy V (Netherlands) & RavageRaps (USA), followed by ‘Traces’ in 2021 and recently ‘Gemini’ which heavily emphasizes the concepts of Yin & Yang and ancient mysticism.

Do you think is it important for fans of your music to understand the real story and message driving each of your songs, or do you think everyone should be free to interpret your songs in their own personal way?

InternalChaos: Both, actually the lyrics and concepts are very neutral, it could go either way, depends on the listener’s point of view. And it’s much appreciated if they think on it and come to conclusions on the essence to it rather than drifting in circles.

Creative work in a studio environment, or interaction with a live audience? Which of these two options excite you most, and why?

InternalChaos: It depends, meeting someone and getting to know them personally, hearing out their experiences can be overwhelming in a good way, on the contrary headspace is a gem.

Do you have a favorite motto, phrase, or piece of advice, you try to live or inspire yourself by?

InternalChaos: We are our own worst enemy, the sooner we start to truly realize that, love shall find its way beyond the borderlines.

Could you tell us something about your usual guitar recording setup? Amps, pedals, guitar, etc.?

InternalChaos: Mayones Regius 7, all guitar tracks are recorded as DI’s via Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 then revamped through Amp Sims on DAWs, there are great ones available on the internet. I tend to use Neural DSP’s products or it might vary, depends on the needs.

What do you find most rewarding about what you do? And do you have a specific vision or goal set in your mind that you would like to achieve soon?

InternalChaos: The current goal for this project is to compose & record more songs, finish an album, send it out to record labels. And hopefully, get a deal!
