A superbly melodic psych-rocker, “Bloom” comes from Chace Saltzman, a Canadian-born singer/songwriter currently based in Chicago. Unassuming acoustics quickly spring to life alongside lively guitar twangs. The one-minute mark starts to unveil the fantastic hook, the richly harmonious vocals and echoing guitars utterly captivating — “Could it be that feeling small is assumed? / A song that plays when my everything feels in tune?” “Bloom” dazzles with its deeply melodic pull and excellent production, never letting go throughout.
“I was really invested in creating a haunting atmosphere for this tune, sort of a dark western atmosphere with hints of The Beatles and The Byrds,” Saltzman says about the track. “The song was written and recorded in the wake of a bitter breakup, where I found myself trying to understand how I kept finding myself in such places of betrayal and loss.”
Saltzman previously played in notable Chicago psych scene acts Thee Casual Hex and Los Gold Fires.
“Bloom” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2021’ Spotify playlist.
The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
