“Far Dawn” is a dreamy, beautiful success from Japanese project atrem, comprising Ryuichi Shima and Yusuke Kamimura. Taking inspiration from the world of The Aosawa Murders, a psychological thriller by novelist Riku Onda, the track tells “a story of encounter, longing, farewell, and a new beginning.” Gently fluttering guitars and a warming bass line exude a comforting glow, as the gradual accompaniment of strings and additional guitars construct a climatic allure reminiscent of Radiohead, circa In Rainbows. Shima’s vocals emerge tranquilly thereafter, the push of strings just past the two-minute mark adding a weightlessly captivating quality. The vocals intensify in the following minute, driving to a striking conclusion that sends chills. “Far Dawn” is a stirring success from atrem.
This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2022’ Spotify playlist.
